Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3) is a website that provides users with a standardized mechanism and interface to report suspicious cyber crime or other illegal activity done by the Internet. Victims can report on their behalf, and people can also report crime on behalf of other people.

The IC3 website provides an interface to report Internet crime, informs the FBI about the threat of terrorism or terrorism and reports the child related crime to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). In addition to the complaint, the site contains an FAQ for FAQs, ongoing investigation information, crime prevention tips, and credit card fraud and phishing.

The type of information sought on the complaint form is as follows:
  • Contact information for the victim.
  • Financial information, such as account data, recipients, account and transaction data (for crimes related to theft of money)
  • The website, name and contact information for the person who allegedly committed the crime are called "topics".
  • Crime Details.
  • Email Header
IC3 was created in 2000 by a task force, which included the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C) and Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). Originally called Internet Fraud Complaint Center (IFCC), the name of the site was changed in 2003 to better reflect the wider nature of internet-facilitated crime.
