Air pollution
Air pollution is a major environmental health problem affecting the earth. This occurs when the environment is contaminated by any chemical, physical or biological agent that modifies the natural characteristics of the environment. Home, stove, tobacco smoke, automotive, industrial facilities and forest fire are the common sources of air pollution. It is responsible for the increase in respiratory infections in asthma and in particular children. Due to the increased morbidity and mortality, due to chronic diseases including stroke, chronic respiratory diseases and cancer have also been attributed to air pollution. These facts show that air pollution is now the world's largest single environmental health risk.
Assuming that air pollution is a serious health hazard, the Indian government has constituted a Steering Committee in the field of environment and domestic air pollution to consider the health effects of air pollution and to expand recommendations.
