Firefox
Firefox is a web browser that is smaller, faster, and in some ways more secure than Mozilla Browser, where most of its code was originally received. Compared to Internet Explorer, the most popular web browser gives Firefox users a cleaner interface and faster download speeds. As of November 2008, Firefox had around 20% market share for browsers worldwide. There was approximately 70% in Internet Explorer. Most features are included in Firefox with which the users of other browsers are familiar. The first repetition of the browser included many new features that other browsers did not have at that time, such as a bookmark toolbar and tabbed browsing that allows a user to quickly switch between multiple web sites back and forth. Other browsers have adopted many of these features, though a substantial developer base of Firefox continues to build new plug-ins that increase the utility and functionality of the offer. Because scripting controls like Java and ActiveX can be easily unselected during installation, therefore there is a possibility of better security.
Firefox 2.0 was released in October of 2006. The latest version includes:
- A mail component called "Thunderbird"
- A quick link to Google search engine.
- Ability to search multiple search engines simultaneously.
- A more streamlined user interface.
- Better and Extended Tabbed Browsing.
- RSS Support.
- New security features including anti-phishing protection.
- Better integrated search of many search engines.
- Spell checking, Session Restore, and "Live Title."
