Opera

Opera is a web browser that offers some benefits to Mozilla or other Microsoft browsers. Very small in size, Opera is known to be fast and stable. Opera is available for many operating systems, including BeOS, Symbian OS, Linux, Mac OS, OS / 2, Solaris and Windows. It offers the same potential of more popular browsers, including integrated search and instant messaging, support for JavaScript, style sheets and e-mail. Because opera is very compact, it has been promoted to be used in hand-held internet equipment, which also includes smartphones using the Windows Mobile operating system.

The first thing you see after installing Opera is a menu or "hotlist", which acts as a web directory and bookmark file. The hotlist can be easily removed and you can use the full viewing location to view many web sites at the same time, either tiling or cascading windows. You can choose the sites you were restoring after the Opera browser was last opened. Opera keyboard provides mouse control with its features. Plug-ins like RealAudio, RealVideo, and Shockwave can be added. Opera does not support Active-X or Visual Basic.

Opera started in 1994 as a research project for the national phone company in Norway, Telenor. Now it's on its 9th edition. Opera is free to download on all supported platforms. There is a browser for Opera Nintendo's Wii Gaming Console.

Other web browsers include Firefox, Internet Explorer, Apple Computer Safari and Mosaic, which were developed in 1993 and Netscape's browser, the original code base for links.
