Domain Tasting
Domain Tasting is the practice of buying many existing domain names and then exploiting the grace period of five days, to determine which names are profitable for themselves. Generic intention is to resell the high values to the command domain names, although there are several ways to make money from domain traders (sometimes called "domainers").As of March 2008, the cost of registering a domain name is less than $ 10. Apart from that, the registrant has five days, the Ad Grace Period (AGP), during which any repayable amount is refundable. Even the minimum transaction cost is also waived. The objective of AGP was to allow legitimate buyers to return the registered names (with a typo, for example) for error at a time when cost per domain was very high.
Domain tasters make money from practice by selling profitable domain names in many ways. In some cases, they repeatedly register the domain name and receive the name usage for free. A domainer can also register a large number of domains and then set up web sites with nothing besides the ad link. The domain taster monitors activity on each site and holds the domain names that generate the most clickthrough revenue or generate the highest clickthrough rates.
In the volume, even pages that are registered for the ad grace period, they can earn very good money.
Domains tasting may be a problem for individuals and businesses who are interested in establishing a new web site. The domain name they want to buy may be unavailable, although no one is using it for legitimate business. Domain tasting also essentially disables the Internet with useless web pages, the server consumes resources and generates great internet traffic.
Many approaches are being considered for making the domain tasting profitable and therefore the practice is ending. For example, Google may disqualify sites for less than five days for its AdSense program. However, similar programs are available for the exploitation of the domain. The institution that controls the domain name system, ICANN announced the proposal for removal with grace period for registration. Cost per name is not important for a valid registrar, who do not want to enter a large number of names. However, this domain would be prohibitive for the taster, which, like a spammer - depends on the volume to earn profit.
According to ICANN, in January 2007, 95% of all deleted .com and .net domain names were responsible for the top ten domain tasters: 45,450,897 total of 47,824,131 deleted names.
