Google Wallet is a mobile payment method developed by Google that allows smartphone users to store credit and debit card information for online and in-store shopping.
With the use of near-communication (NFC) and cloud technology, Google Wallet allows people to make fast, secure payments by checking their phone on any NFC point-of-sale terminal (i.e. MasterCard PayPal and Visa PayWave) on checkout Allows Online, users can use their Google Wallet account when there is a "Buy Google Wallet" button on merchant websites.
In addition to collecting credit information, Google Wallet allows users to place loyalty cards and gift cards on their mobile phones and promotes sales using apps. All credit and debit cards are stored on a secure Google server with the following security components:
Lock capabilities: On smartphone, the 4-digit Google Wallet personal identification number (PIN) prevents unauthorized access to credit card information. Online, Google has many layers of password protection to protect cyber security or credit fraud.
Remote control: Google Wallet accounts can be remotely disabled in case of smartphone damage. Individual cards will still work, but Google Wallet will disable purchases via mobile phones.
Encryption: Credits and debit cards stored in Google Wallet are encrypted on a secure location on Google's secure servers. When users pay in-store, Google pays for the merchant and then processes the transaction with the user's selected credit or debit card. This security measure is the payment card information from both the merchants and the Android OS.
Hidden Account Number: Google Wallet App keeps payments card number hidden. When the cards appear on the store in the user's phone screen, the numbers do not appear. Online, only the last 4 digits appear during the purchase.
Since its release in September 2011, the Google Wallet app has been made available for major Samsung, LG, and HTC Android devices.
