AirDrop - Apple
Apple AirDrop is a feature in iOS and OS X that allows users to share data from one device to another on the same Wi-Fi network.AirDrop allows users to share photos, videos, websites and locations between those devices. This feature can be activated with Control Center via iPhone 5 or later, iPad 4 or later, iPad mini or iPod Touch fifth generation or later with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. When users have a piece of content open, they can click on the stock, select the AirDrop icon from the list of options and then choose the name of the AirDrop user they want to share. Other users receive a preview of the content and can accept or reject it. The process on Mac computer is slightly different: The user reaches the Airdrop through the Finder, Share menu, or Open and Save window, and then shares the files by dragging and dropping it on another user's device icon.
IT can not control what data users can share via airdrops, so employees can potentially leak corporate data through the device. The only way to restrict access to AirDrop for IT is a supervised mode, a Mobile Device Management (MDM) feature that gives IT administrators control over iOS devices.
In iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite, users can transfer data from Mac to Computer and vice versa from iOS device. In iOS 7, users can only transmit data like devices using AirDrop. A user can transfer data from an iOS device to another iOS device, for example. OS X Lion was the first Mac OS to include Airdrop.
