OS X - Apple
The version of OS X Apple Macintosh operating system is 10. OS X was described as Apple's "complete modification" before the OS because the previous version is OS9, which focuses on modularity so that future changes are easy to incorporate. OS X includes support for UNIX-based applications as well as for people written for Macintosh only. The difference most visible from earlier Mac OS versions is a desktop that has a 3-D appearance. OS X includes the ability to run QuickTime movies in the icon size, the ability to create instant wake-sleep capability on portable computers, support for DVD movies and audio CDs. OS X can be installed with OS 9 on the existing Mac, so users can choose to use when the computer starts.
Since the first version of OS X, the operating system has gone through a series of upgrades, each has a filename code name. The first was set for launch in "Panther" (10.2), then "Jaguar" (10.3), "Tiger" (10.4) and then "Leopard" (10.5), 2007. Each repetition of the operating system included improvements in functionality. A search suite (Spotlight) and a suite of image, sound and video editing applications was bundled under the title "iLife".
OS X.5 (Leopard) will also have a "boot camp", which will allow users of new Apple computers built around the Intel-Processor to run Windows on their Mac.
